Partial Die Cutting

In my last post I talked a bit about partial die cutting and what a fun technique it can be to expand the usefulness of dies. Stampin' Up has a lovely set of butterfly dies in the current catalog that are great for this technique, and I just found out that they are going to be in the new catalog as well!

I used the sweet stamp set called "Watercolor Wings" to create a card using partial die cutting and a fun interior pop up element! The possibilities are endless for these butterflies since stamping in different colors will create a whole new look each time!

I stamped my sweet little butterflies in Pear Pizzazz and So Saffron and added a few elements from "Timeless Textures" for interest. A pop of Pool Party on the interior creates a contrast against the butterflies when the card is closed.

Here are a few pictures of the pop up element, which is super basic but a fun surprise when the recipient opens the card.

My interior butterfly uses So Saffron and Blushing Bride for a bit of a color change that is still soft and pretty. Directions for creating this pop up can be found at Julie Davidson's blog here. Julie has a tutorial for a vertical pop up as well! Thanks, Julie!

Jennifer McGuire has a great tutorial on partial die cutting here if this technique is new to you. She has a wonderful YouTube channel with tons of useful information!

Thanks for stopping by today!
